Resident Artist at Moonrise 🌙

Resident Artist at Moonrise 🌙

Reflections of an Artistic Mystic

Shelley Irish, 3/6/19

This Friday I’ll be showing as a resident artist at an arts collective for the first time in 8.5 years! 💓 I’ll be part of the Lady Luck show @ Moonrise Studios, part of the Greenwood Arts Collective!!! I’ve partnered with Marina O’Sullivan and Jess Coulson as a co-creatrix of Moonrise. 🤩 Sarah Leever, my friend and student of a couple of my painting workshops, will be showing her fantastic creature paintings with us this month, as well as Jessie Beans, there with her beautiful jewelry.

The ladies of Moonrise just got this space a few months ago and invited me to do a show ‘Cosmic Creatrix’ in January of this year. That was a blast and I am so excited to come back as a resident artist.

As I stood in front of the door with my super lightly packed box, awkwardly taking a blurry photo before set up the other night, it really hit me. I’ve had so much help to get to this point of just standing in front of a door, ready to open it. And now, I get to do art events with friends and be part of an evolving space! 🥰

Every month I’ll change out my exhibit area to match the theme of the show and will do a workshop there once in a while. I will need to lift lower amounts of weight indefinitely to prevent big pain in my arm, and showing small amounts of art more often is one of the things that is making my recovery and path back to ass kickery very workable. I’m used to doing a few art fairs each year and haul most of my inventory to each show. I’m not going to even try to keep up with that workload and re-injure myself. I’m going to take just a few things to Emerald Spiral at the end of this month and see how it goes. I’ll have a better sense of what is realistic for me after that.

Doing monthly shows of lightweight ease with art friends I admire and enjoy is a blessing to my life in sooo many ways. That’s the pool my heart is swimming in this week.
